Terms of Service
Effective September 21, 2026
These terms govern your use of Clementine, the household finance application at clementine.financial (“the Service”). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.
1. What the Service is
Clementine shows the financial accounts you connect through Plaid in one place, keeps a ledger and a budget over them, produces statements and charts, models portfolios, and offers an AI assistant that can read the same data and answer questions about it. Two people can merge their accounts into one household view.
2. Not financial advice
Nothing in the Service, including the statements, the budget comparisons, the efficient-frontier models and anything the assistant says, is financial, investment, tax or legal advice, or a recommendation to buy, sell or hold anything. Figures are derived from data supplied by your institutions through Plaid and from third-party market prices, either of which may be delayed, incomplete or wrong. The assistant is a language model and can make mistakes. Check anything that matters against your institution before acting on it, and consult a qualified professional for advice.
3. Your account
- You must be at least 18 and able to enter into a contract.
- You must connect only accounts you are entitled to access, and keep your sign-in secure. Multi-factor authentication is required.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once at [email protected] if you believe it has been compromised.
4. Connecting institutions through Plaid
Connections to your financial institutions are made through Plaid Inc. By connecting an account you grant us and Plaid the right to retrieve your account data from that institution on your behalf, and you agree to Plaid’s End User Privacy Policy. You can revoke a connection at any time on the Accounts page or at my.plaid.com. Institutions change what they make available and may require you to reconnect.
5. Households
Merging finances with another person shares, in both directions, every connected account, transaction, holding, ledger entry and budget line. Only merge with someone you trust with all of that. Either member can stop sharing at any time, which ends the other’s view immediately but does not delete anything.
6. Subscription, trial and payment
- The Service is sold as one subscription per household, billed by Stripe. Prices are shown at checkout and include any applicable tax.
- A household that has never subscribed gets one free trial of 30 days. A payment card is taken when the trial starts and is charged automatically when it ends unless you cancel first.
- Subscriptions renew automatically. You can cancel at any time under Billing → Manage billing; access continues until the end of the period already paid for, and no partial refunds are made.
- If a payment fails we will retry it; if it keeps failing, the subscription ends and the features it covers are switched off. Your data stays readable.
- We may change the price with at least 30 days’ notice; the change applies from your next renewal.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- connect accounts that are not yours to connect, or use the Service on behalf of others without their authority;
- probe, scan or test the Service for vulnerabilities without our written permission, or interfere with its operation;
- scrape, copy or resell the Service or the data it presents;
- use the assistant to generate anything unlawful, or attempt to make it disclose data that is not yours.
8. Your data
Your data is yours. We use it only as the Privacy Policy describes. You can delete it, and your account, at any time from the Household page; deletion is immediate and permanent.
9. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the Service available but do not guarantee it. We may change, suspend or discontinue features, and will give reasonable notice of anything that removes something you pay for. Third-party services the Service depends on (Plaid, institutions, market-data providers, Anthropic) may be unavailable or change without notice to us.
10. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING ACCURACY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE FIGURES SHOWN ARE COMPLETE OR CORRECT.
11. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, INVESTMENTS OR DATA, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR RELIANCE ON ANYTHING IN IT. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE. Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, in which case they apply to the extent permitted.
12. Termination
You can end these terms at any time by deleting your account. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms or if the law requires it, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it. Sections 2, 10, 11 and 13 survive termination.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are resolved in the state or federal courts located in New York, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except that either party may seek an injunction anywhere to protect its data or intellectual property.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will notify you in the application at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the new terms.
